Remote Access to the CWIS

This service allows members of the University to obtain access to the 'University of Leicester Only' pages on the CWIS while not directly attached to the University network. A CFS username and password is required for authentication.

 PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING KNOWN PROBLEMS:

• Some versions of the Opera Web Browser may not correctly recognise the wildcard SSL certificate for this site.
• CFS passwords greater that 14 characters will not work with this service. Change your CFS password so that it is less than 15 characters to use this service.
• Areas that have their own username and password access control cannot be viewed via this service.
• Browsers may issue warnings about pages with embedded objects (eg images) from other sites to the effect that the pages contains non-secure items. In the case of this service it is safe to ignore the warnings and display the non-secure items.
• While CWIS and LWMS sites are both protected by CFS usernames and passwords, it is neccessary to repeat the authentication for each.
• Unusual use of absolute URLs (in scripts for example) can cause unexpected results.
• All strings matching http://www.le.ac.uk or http://www.lwms.le.ac.uk in HTML or CSS files are rewritten. This can mean that URLs in page content also get rewritten. Page authors can work around this by HTML encoding at least one character in a matching string.

This service is subject to the Services "At Risk" Times and any planned breaks in service will be announced at News from IT Services.
